Aloha HIBIKE members!
We’re well into the holiday season and Christmas is only a few weeks away. We hope this season has already been full of joy and cheer and you continue to make wonderful memories.
October was the second highest usage month in 2024! Here at HIBIKE we're thrilled to see people using the bikes and enjoying themselves.
The two highest usage days were October 25 & 26... which happens to also be the same time as the Hawaii Island Ironman. Coincidence? We'll let you decide.
There's so much to enjoy in Hilo! Whether you have family visiting, are planning a staycation, or just want to switch up your routine a little, we've got you covered. Check out our fun morning itinerary for a few hours of cruise.
Start by grabbing a bike from sation 145 in Lili'uokalani Gardens and wheel around the peaceful oasis. With 24.6 acres to enjoy we're sure you'll find something beautiful. Even if you've been here quite a few times, this is a spot that never fails to delight.
Next, pull up to Big Island Coffee Roasters for a cup of joe. We'd recommend parking your bike at station 115, on Silva & Kalanianaole if you're planning on spending a lot of time here. It's only a short walk away. But if you're just bopping in for coffee (have you tried their iced honu turtle mocha? Heavenly!) you probably won't want to.
Park your bike at station 171 or 182 for a few hours to chill at Onekahakaha Beach park and Kealoha Beach park (respectively.) Soaking up sunshine at the beach always feels better post-cycling!
To finish off the morning head over to Cafe Pesto Hilo Bay for some wood-fired pizzas or Pineapples Island fresh cuisine. You can dock your bike at station 125 at Mo'oheau Park.

Here in Hawaii we're lucky to have some of the best weather in the world-- but if you've spent any time in Hilo you've probably been out in the rain. Besides making you feel like a kid again, riding in the rain can require some extra diligence. Check out our safety tips below to stay safe in the next downpour!
Painted roadway markers, manhole covers, and leafy debris can become extra slick during and after the rain. When riding over these surfaces, head straight and avoid making abrupt stops and turns.
HIBIKE's come equipped with reflectors and rear and front lights that automatically start blinking as soon as you start pedaling. Be sure your belongings and clothing do not block these lights so you can stay visible. Bright clothing and reflective gear are always a good idea, too!
When coming to a stop, ease on the brakes earlier than normal. It’s a good idea to brake before making turns and keep your HIBIKE upright instead of leaning into corners.
